The Division to be Made into a Motion Picture

Ubisoft Motion Pictures are on a roll. They already have an Assassin’s Creed movie lined up for a late December release and with titles like Splinter Cell, Watchdogs, and Ghost Recon already in development the company it seems will have their hands full for the next few years. The Division is the latest Ubisoft title to join the production line-up. Rumours about a film had already surfaced in June with Ubisoft confirming it on their blog today. Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty) and Jake Gyllenhaal (End of Watch, Nightcrawler) will reportedly star in the movie with both their production companies Freckle Films and Nine Stories respectively, playing a part in the development process.

The Division sees a near future New York ravaged by a smallpox outbreak with the city in chaos and turned into a war zone. With no writer or director on board it’s not clear as to what direction the movie will take with Ubisoft saying “The pandemic-stricken streets of The Division are filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism, but we’ll have to wait to find out what avenues the film will explore.”
With a stellar cast like Michael Fassbender (X-men First Class), Marion Cotillard (Inception), and Jeremy Irons (Batman vs Superman) already on board and with the addition of the Jake and Chastain, the future of Ubisoft Motion Pictures looks very promising. The company’s first film, Assassins Creed releases December 21, 2016.
