Adult Swim Releases Nostalgic Teaser To Announce New Samurai Jack Season

“Long ago in a distant land… I Aku the shape shifting master of darkness….”

If you read that in the voice of the Master of Masters then I can safely assume that you are probably a Samurai Jack fan and hold the series close to your heart. Well, I have got good news for you. After a over a decade of absence from the silver screen (on a side note Jack had his own comic series from 2013-2015) our beloved Samurai is returning to the TV screen once more, next year. As announced by Adult Swim, series creator Genndy Tartakovsky will be back to produce a new season which will air on Toonami in 2016. Tartakovsky has also held the brush for other well acclaimed series such as: Dexter’s Laboratory,  Star Wars: Clone Wars and has directed the two Hotel Transylvania films.

For the new fans, the series follows Jack, a samurai (Which is why it’s named Samurai Jack, get it?), sent forward in time, in his quest against the formless demon Aku. The series debuted in 2001 and ran for four seasons and 52 episodes. The show was well praised for its distinctive art style, unique setting and a weird sense of humor During it’s time it went on to win 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, ranked 11th in IGN’s Top 25 Primetime Animated Series of All Time list and gained a cult following. However as the season began to progress the ratings declined and Cartoon Network decided to cut his journey short. The series was revived with a comic series published by IDW Publishing and ran from October 2013 to May 2015.

I feel like it’s culminating to a fever pitch almost. I feel like it’s time to maybe finish the story. We’ve been trying to get the feature off the ground but maybe that’s just fate’s way of saying this is a television thing and maybe it should be a mini-series or something like that. – Genndy Tartakovsky

Even though the series ended in 2004 without the main plot of the series ever being resolved, the fan following and popularity has only increased with the years with Tartakovsky saying “I feel like it’s culminating to a fever pitch almost” in an interview this year by . Not much has been said about the show yet with the teaser poster showing a change in costume (?) and Adult Swim only revealing that the show will air during Adult Swims’s Toonami block and is currently being produced in Los Angeles, till then quench you thirst with this teaser Adult Swim released.
