Sony has typically dominated Microsoft in the console market, but finally, Microsoft’s moment has come. According to recent sales records, the Xbox One S has slammed PS4 in first week sales, with the Xbox’s sales seeing an increase of 1000% week-over-week in the UK. The console ended the week with 71% share of the market whereas Sony ended with 19% despite releasing PS4 slim on 15th September.
In this regard, Xbox UK marketing boss Harvey Eagle says:
“It’s great to see how popular both the Xbox One S and the FIFA 17 Xbox One S consoles are with fans, not just over the last week but since the Xbox One S was released in August,” adding, “4K video streaming and 4K UHD Blu-ray have been extremely well received and we believe there is no better value right now for those looking to upgrade their console.”
So is this the start of the Microsoft Era? It’s too early to say much. Sony has still shipped almost 40 million PS4 units, whereas Microsoft has not ever shipped half of that amount. This is the first time Xbox has outplayed Sony. The main contest will start after the release of PS4 Pro, which will be loaded with 4.2 teraflops of processing power. With new exclusives and PS4 Pro, Sony might be waiting patiently for their turn.
