The fiscal report for Sony’s first quarter is out and according to it, the PS4 is performing really well. In its first quarter, 3.5 million PS4 were shipped. If we add this 3.5 to lifetime sales, it adds up to 43.5 million units. Sony expects to ship 20 million more units in this financial year (ending March 31, 2017). The Game & Network Services division as a whole’s sales were up 14.5% year-over-year to $3.2 billion. Simultaneously, they discovered that there was a decrease in PlayStation 3 hardware and software sales.
Sony says operating income increased by 126% to end at $427, “mainly due to the substantial performance of Uncharted 4,”. Furthermore, the uptick is thanks to increased PS4 game sales, including those through the PlayStation Network, as well as PS4 hardware reduction costs. For the Network sales, they increased 38% year-over-year and accounted for 46% of the total sales in the segment.
